tokyo police club was amazing! they played at the black cat club which is a great place. meligrove band was terrific, too. i got a meligrove band t-shirt and all the band members signed it for me :) and we got to meet all 3 bands' members (smoosh was also playing. they are good, but not quite my taste in music)
and to cap off a wonderful night, my car was rear-ended at 12:30 as meli and i were waiting to turn onto 14th st. after leaving the club. on the plus side, the other driver's insurance company (geico) already called me at 9:30 this morning, and took my car one hour later. so i now have a lovely hyundai sonata rental to tool around in. i am not a geico customer, but wow, impressive customer service.

Meli and I saw The Proclaimers last night. They were most excellent! We were surrounded by a variety of UK accents. It was great. The opening act was Jeremy Fisher. I had never heard of him, but he was really good. This morning i downloaded his album from iTunes.
And tomorrow night......Tokyo Police Club!

so about 3 weeks ago: i was driving to dulles airport with meli to pick up someone. we stopped at the crown station on the parkway on the way up since my tank was pretty low. the pump stopped itself on exactly $50 which we thought was pretty cool. (yeah we don't get out much)

coincidence? or is something more sinister afoot? freaky

I was reading something recently about regretting experiences in one's life. When I gave it some thought, I was able to go back and think about some things that I wish hadn't happened, but haven't really made that big a difference in my life. But there is one thing that does make me feel true regret. Something that has profoundly affected me and still escapes my subconscious and painfully stabs at my heart when I least expect it. It happened so long ago, but it is the one thing in my life out of which absolutely nothing good came. I don't believe time heals all wounds.

i had a great weekend. went to misa and phil's (friends of meli's) for the weekend. saturday we spent some time poking about in some really neat shops and ate at a fantastic french restaurant (can can). then we went to an irish pub which was surprisingly empty for a saturday night, but there was good live music, good food, and good drink. would love to go back when it's busier. sunday we went to a few more shops and returned to can can. i am absolutely in love with that place. everything was so fresh and delicious. would love to eventually work my way through their entire menu. we brought along a couple movies to watch, but we were so busy or spent so much time just talking that we never watched anything :)
steve and kelly got married in hawaii on the 8th. i saw a few casual pics they took. still waiting to see the professional ones. i am glad that steve found someone who obviously makes him so happy.
i saw that brad renfro died. how very sad for someone that started with so much potential. when i saw him for the first time in "the client" i thought he was really going to go somewhere. but i guess he had the wrong people whispering in his ear and went down the road of bad behavior and addiction.
and in other entertainment news.....cloverfield!

so like a month ago i lost the charger for my cell phone and because the phone was a discontinued model, i had to buy a new cell phone. no big deal, i was eligible for an upgrade and i do love my new slimmer, prettier red phone. the only problem i had was that i could not figure out where my charger went. i keep it on my desk. i charge the phone on my desk, and when i disconnect it, that's where the charger remains. so for it to have just vanished kinda freaked me out.
yesterday, i got my hard drive back from gillware (a data recovery service) along with the external drive i had sent them to put my restored data on. I opened the box and wondered why there were two power cords.........yup, the extra cord was my cell phone charger! my faith in the laws of physics has been restored.

wednesday night meli and i pulled an all-nighter: things we lost in the fire, into the wild, and 30 days of night. we didn't get outta there until about 8:30am. it was all made possible by wawa <3.
i got $75 in amazon gift certificates, so i ordered a few dvds. now i am just waiting for deepdiscount's 20% off sale in november so i can place a serious order.
meli treated crystal and me to dinner at carrabba's tonight. it was teh yummy surprise! we were all sooo sleepy after...too much food omg. i came home at about 10 ready to crash, but i drank coffee while i watched a movie on the compy and now i'm wide awake.

meli and i went up to eddie's house last nightat about 11. we all decided to go bowling. we had a blast. our scores never went above two digits, but who cares? (and i got me some strikes, too.) then we went to fast eddie's and hung out, and then to ihop.
two vivid dreams recently: in one, some thugs took over a luxury hotel i was at and were killing a lot of people. i got all uppity and brave in the face of the leader when he ordered a bunch of people to be herded into this one area. i insisted that he couldn't tell me what to do and that i was going to sit in the lifeguard chair. he was impressed with my nerve, so he let me. but then he had one of his henchmen bring in this friend of mine (who was played by christina ricci, wtf) and they cut her throat while she stood behind me and i had to act like i didn't care. then one of the men that was in front me shot her and the bullet grazed my arm and i got really pissed. he got into all kinds of trouble from the boss man.
brief, but seemed very real: I was at a mall with friends and they had these nice sneakers that were only $2 but there was a limit of 4 per customer. so i was buying them to take to the homeless shelter. this kid came up to me and said his brother was gonna beat the crap out of him if he found him (can't remember why). so i grabbed a big hat and a girls' sweater from the rack and told him to put them on. we sat at a table with his back to his brother and pretended to have an animated conversation. he escaped unscathed :)
today i went to an art show that shelby had entered a couple pieces in. she didn't win, but some of the pieces that we really liked ended up winning. not surprisingly, there were lots of students from woodbridge that had entered.

i was just about to climb into bed at 12:30 when i got a call to come and watch a screening of 3:10 to yuma. "but i'm already in my jammies" "so just come in your jammies" "but i'm tired" "get some coffee" nag nag nag! haha so now i am wide awake from the huge iced coffee i drank. the movie was very good. i'm not big on westerns, so they have to be really good for me to enjoy watching. i think i only have like 5 in my whole collection (out of a little over 800)
this morning we screened shoot 'em up which was pretty great. the music is awesome. i'm glad i liked it because i will be going again tomorrow so that shelby and co. can watch it.
and summer is over. sigh.

so last night around 11:00, meli, shelby, kenny, meli's brother, his girlfriend, another friend of theirs, and i piled into my van and went to one of the seven-elevens that is temporarily a kwik-e-mart. it was about an hour away. i didn't buy anything because I had already bought a box of krusy-o's at a local seven-eleven. But yeah, i think they spent enough to finance the next movie. i've never seen so many pink donuts. tonight we are going to the midnight show of the movie.
otakon was pretty good this year. the weather was amazing, so i spent a lot of time in the inner harbor watching street performers and eating way too much. i didn't get to watch much of anything that i had marked on the program. that's usually the case, though. so i'll be renting lots of stuff from netflix that i missed. i picked up a few shirts from the dealer's room. my favorite is a shirt that says: super mario bros (with the bros "o" like the "o" in the heroes logo) save the princess save world 8-4
on the down side, there was so much ridiculous drama among everyone in our rooms (we had two connecting)

| Writer's Block: Summer Break |
[07 Jul 2007|05:03pm] |
How did you spend summers when you were a kid?
All of my neighbors were boys, so we played basketball, baseball, and wiffle ball. We rode mini bikes on the trail behind the local church. I was a real tomboy for a long time. When it was too hot to go outside, we played Monopoly. My neighbor Steve had an in-ground pool, so we went swimming a lot. We also made use of a swimming hole located off the mini-bike trail (until someone ended up with ringworm....ewww). My best friend from school was Angie Muse, and we had sleepovers a lot and loved to play on the dirt mounds at construction sites. I took a lot of walks in the woods by myself. I also spent time every year at my grandparents' camp on a lake in Maine.

this weekend was anime mid-atlantic. i went to an asian cinema panel and discovered a few new titles to watch that sound promising. melissa and i found a five guys about a mile from the hotel, so we walked there every day. luckily, the weather was perfect for it. unfortunately, there was also a cold stone creamery near it. so we did double damage every time we headed up there. we did, however, feel somewhat justified since we walked 2 miles each time we ate there. saturday night around 11:30, we decided to pop in and watch the ravers for a bit. but melissa pulled me onto a train and we just never got off. i had a blast. i bought a couple prints from artist's alley and a nyanko burger shirt from the dealer's room. i also picked up a voodoo baby pirate to keep my ninja company. yar.

last night around 1 we went out to anywhere that was open. woodbridge is so lame. we went to bloom and wawa. walmart would have been way too much excitement to handle. lol we started talking about x-file episodes and ended up watching a couple. i really need to watch the series again. kenny had never seen final destination so we watched that too. i didn't realize that i still hadn't bought fd3 to complete the collection. must add to wish list. we ate at five guys, which i had been craving since friday. i think after starbucks, five guys may well be my newest addiction. last week i saw shrek 3 and bug. the former was pretty good, the latter was excellent. I'm not sure if Michael Shannon has done anything major before, but he was really impressive in bug. One to watch. i came across this today and had to order. what a price! and the shipping is only a buck right now.

friday night we finally got around to watching the cromartie high movie. i guess seeing a movie at a con is much more fun and leaves you with a better impression than when you just watch it at home. i didn't realize how lame it really was. butters and i watched 2009 lost memories while melssa fell asleep almost instantly on the couch. saturday went by in some kind of blur...i remember kohl's and five guys burgers....and lots of driving to various destinations. oh yeah, and melssa and i walked about 4 miles because we are insane. today was boring followed by boringness. but shelby, kenny, melssa, and i did go to ihop around 10:30 tonight. we dropped kenny at home shortly after midnight. and now my bedcovers look so soft and warm. mmmmmmm.
